How I Got Book: Borrowed from Library

SUMMARY:

Matthew has loved Ariel from the moment he found her in the tunnels, her bee’s wings falling away. They live in Safe, an underground refuge for those fleeing the city Above—like Whisper, who speaks to ghosts, and Jack Flash, who can shoot lightning from his fingers.

But one terrifying night, an old enemy invades Safe with an army of shadows, and only Matthew, Ariel, and a few friends escape Above. As Matthew unravels the mystery of Safe’s history and the shadows’ attack, he realizes he must find a way to remake his home—not just for himself, but for Ariel, who needs him more than ever before.

Review:

I loved this book and couldn't put it down, even though I had no choice when I could barely keep my eyes open and I needed sleep badly. Above is told from Teller's POV about how he and his friends survive in Above away from their home Safe after it's been invaded by Killer and how they do everything in their power to get Safe; safe again.

The writing style is what most people found hard to understand, but honestly I found it spun an amazing magical tale about people who are different in the society known as Above and just want to be left in peace in the sanctuary known as Safe.

I loved Matthew's character who's known by the name Teller because he is just that a teller someone who listens and tells people's tales the way they are supposed to be told so that people never forget the good and the bad that's been done in Safe. I love the spun tale of Matthew and Ariel falling in love. Ariel is a girl who's shy and fragile after everything that life threw at her, while reading the book you start to understand her better. Jack Flash is someone who I thought was sort of like a brother figure to Teller. Whisper is known as Whisper because she talks to ghosts. Jack Flash is known as Jack Flash because he make things light by electricity and can spark lights. Whisper I found to be like an all knowing Grandma to Teller.
Corner really tugged at my heartstrings and as you get more into the book you'll understand why.

I would reccomend this book to people who are interested in books about human emotions told in a tale of wonder and woe. I definitely can't wait to read more by this author in the near future, I hope!
